ID17 is dedicated to biomedical imaging, radiation biology and radiation therapy; experiments can be performed in-vitro or in-vivo in two endstations which work alternatively.
The first endstation, located at ~40 meters from the source, can use filtered white beam with a very high flux. The maximum beam size at this point is 35x2 mm2 (hxv).
The second endstation, located at ~150 meters from the source, can only use monochromatic beam, from 25 keV to 150 keV, with a maximum beam size of 150x6 mm2 (hxv).

The BMF includes 5 laboratories: the animal facility, the L1 cell confinement, the L2 cell confinement, the sample preparation lab and the histology laboratory.
The BMF provides service to ESRF users requiring cell and/or animal experimentation in correspondence with their allocated beamtime as well as in-house research.
