ID20 is dedicated to the study of electronic and magnetic excitations in matter using resonant and non-resonant inelastic X-ray scattering as well as emission/absorption spectroscopy. The main scientific activities comprise of the investigation of strongly correlated electron systems, functional materials, and the study of matter at extreme conditions.
The 1m/2m RIXS spectrometer (located in EH2) is equipped with five spherical crystal analysers, and can operate in the horizontal and/or vertical scattering plane. The overall energy resolution depends on the chosen monochromatization scheme and the crystal analyzer reflection; it ranges from 25 meV to 2 eV.
The 1m spectrometer for non-resonant IXS studies (located in EH3) is equipped with 72 crystal analyzers, arranged in six independent modules that cover both the horizontal and the vertical scattering planes. The overall energy resolution ranges from 0.5 to 2 eV.
