PETRA III at DESY
P64 Advanced X-Ray Absorption Spectroscopy

P64 is dedicated to X-ray absorption spectroscopy experiments, which require high flux. Among those are quick EXAFS (QEXAFS) on the 20-100ms time-scale, EXAFS of highly-diluted systems, e.g. bio-molecules with an active metallic center, and high-resolution spectroscopy with a dispersive fluorescence spectrometer in von-Hamos geometry. Other experiments, which require special set-ups and which profit from the high flux and small, focused beam, are also feasible and can be discussed with beamline staff.

Beamline P64 is located in the southern part of the PETRA III North Hall (P. P. Ewald Hall) close to the FLASH1 Hall.

X-ray absorption spectroscopy finds applications in various research fields:

  • Physics: Mixed-valence compounds
  • Chemistry: Catalysis
  • Biology: Local environment of active metallic center
  • Environmental sciences: Fate and state of metallic contaminations
  • Arts: Composition and aging of paints

Mirrors

Description
Two separate mirrors for reduction of higher harmonics, and focusing, if required.
Three different coatings for different energy ranges: Si, up to 10keV; Rh, up to 22keV; Pt, up to 35keV (depending on angle)
Two cylinders on first mirror for horizontal focusing (one coated with Si, the other one with Rh), second mirror bendable for vertical focusing.
Vertical deflection of both mirrors.
