    KIT - ANKA beamlines for Lithography

The accelerator physics topics to investigate at ANKA range from single and multi-particle beam dynamics and optics to the design and study of new lattices for storage rings.  New modes of operation are made accessible generating ultrashort electron bunches and, subsequently, intense coherent synchrotron radiation (CSR) in the far-infrared and terahertz region. Novel diagnostics for ultrashort electron bunches, ultrashort light pulses, and terahertz radiation are studied. Superconducting undulators are developed.

The main application areas at ANKA beamlines and laboratories are condensed matter, nano- and microtechnologies, life science, biological interfaces, actinide research, environmental research, catalysis, and synchrotron technology. ANKA meets the demands through appropriate competence in infrared, X-ray and electron spectroscopy, X-ray scattering and imaging, and deep X-ray lithography. By developing and extending its competence ANKA remains at the forefront of the above fields.

A prime example of competence at ANKA is the NANO beamline with its adjacent NanoLab@ANKA. The NANO beamline is dedicated to high resolution X-ray diffraction and surface / interface scattering with the focus on in-situ and ex-situ structural characterization of thin films and multilayers of metals, oxides, polymers, and composites. The laboratory Nanolab@ANKA provides an infrastructure for fabrication, processing and complementary surface analytical characterization of thin layers and nanostructures.
