The first seven editions of the School were organized by SILS at S. Margherita di Pula in Sardinia, the VIII at the Frascati Laboratory of the Italian Institute of Nuclear Physics, the three following editions at Duino (Italy) and the last two in Grado (Italy). This edition of the school will be held in Muggia (Italy) from the 15 to the 27 of September, 2019. Muggia is a pleasant seaside resort town close to Trieste, where ELETTRA, the Italian 3rd generation synchrotron radiation facility, and FERMI, the new seeded Free Electron Laser source, are located.
The school is dedicated to the memory of prof. Gilberto Vlaic, who founded in 1990 the first SILS school held in Sardinia that was followed by biannual editions till 2017. Prof. Vlaic was one of the pioneers of the X-ray absorption spectroscopy and contributed significantly to its development and its multiple applications.
